What is culture? What is my culture?
Culture
Definition of Culture: The quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in art, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.
Here is how I see American culture. The art in America is very diverse, like art anywhere. You have ranges from self portraits to comic strips to landscapes to simple sketches. The art programs at certain schools in America are also taken very seriously. With scholarly pursuits, America has an amazing education system. Many citizens are allowed an education from kindergarten all the way to college graduate. Manners in America differ from state to state. In the south manners are taught at a very young age and are used constantly. Yes ma'am and no ma'am, yes sir and no sir, ma'am or sir instead of what, and saying please and thank you for everything are just a few examples of manners that are used in America.
I've never had a culture shock to drastic but I have had two similar experiences. We went to California a few summers ago and I just remember whenever we would go to restaurants or shopping and we spoke to an employee they would ask where I was from because of my manners and accent. A similar experience happened in New York last December.
