Flag Research

Flag Research On the PBS website about the history of the flag, I found out that the American flags first origin is unknown. But, "Some historians believe it was designed by New Jersey Congressman Francis Hopkinson and sewn by Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross." However,  " On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed an act establishing an official flag for the new nation." This day is now known in history as "Flag Day".  On the PBS website about the history of the flag, I found that the flag was " evolved in response to the growth of the country it represents." As for the time of the possible changes this source says, " Between 1777 and 1960 Congress passed several acts that changed the shape, design and arrangement of the flag and allowed stars and stripes to be added to reflect the admission of each new state." The American flag we know of today has 13 stripes, 6 white and 7 red, and 50 stars, one for each state.  On th...

What is culture? What is my culture?

Culture Definition of Culture:  The quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in art, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.  Here is how I see American culture. The art in America is very diverse, like art anywhere. You have ranges from self portraits to comic strips to landscapes to simple sketches. The art programs at certain schools in America are also taken very seriously.  With scholarly pursuits, America has an amazing education system. Many citizens are allowed an education from kindergarten all the way to college graduate. Manners in America differ from state to state. In the south manners are taught at a very young age and are used constantly. Yes ma'am and no ma'am, yes sir and no sir, ma'am or sir instead of what,  and saying please and thank you for everything are just a few examples of manners that are used in America.  I've never had a culture shock to drastic but I have ...
